About Frugio
Frugio is a small collection of logic games. Its first game, nonograms, fits in your pocket: 80 original pixel-art pictures to discover, an endless mode that generates grids on demand, and nothing to install. No account, no ads, no tracking — everything runs in your browser, even without a connection.
What is a nonogram?
A nonogram (also known as picross, hanjie or griddler) is a Japanese logic puzzle. You start from an empty grid, and the numbers at the end of each row and column tell you what to fill in:
- Each number is a block of consecutive filled cells in that line.
- Blocks appear in the same order as the numbers, with at least one empty cell between two blocks.
- Example: “4 2” on a row of 10 means a block of 4, a gap of at least one cell, then a block of 2.
When every row and column is satisfied, the filled cells reveal a picture. That's the quiet joy of the genre: you solve logic, and an image appears.
How to crack a grid
- Start with the big numbers. On a line of 10, an “8” forces the 6 middle cells no matter where the block sits.
- Mark the blanks. A “0” line (or a finished one) fills up with ✕ — which removes possibilities elsewhere. The ✕ is your best friend.
- Alternate rows and columns. Every cell you deduce in a row usually unlocks one in a column, and so on until the end.
- Never guess. In Frugio that's not advice, it's a guarantee: every grid — gallery and endless alike — is checked by our solver before you ever see it. If a grid would require guessing, it gets rejected. Whenever you're stuck, there is always a deduction waiting somewhere.
The two modes
The Gallery offers 110 handmade pictures, from a gentle 5×5 to a beefy 20×20. Each solved picture is revealed in colour and joins your collection. Endless mode generates abstract grids on demand, by size and difficulty — perfect for long evenings.
Useful settings
Assisted mode flags a wrongly filled cell immediately; Free mode checks nothing until the end, like on paper. The game auto-saves your session, works in light and dark, in English and French, and can be installed on your home screen to play offline.
